Financial accountability one-on-one support!
We are excited to introduce you to Andy- our new Financial Literacy Coach! Andy is a Business Administration and Accounting student who will be joining the Friends of the Federation of Calgary Communities this summer to provide one-on-one financial literacy support to our members who have been affected by COVID-19. These services will be offered through one-on-one support sessions, virtual workshops, and tip sheets. If you are interested in signing up for a one-on-one session, send Andy an email at help@calgarycommunities.com and he will get in touch with you as soon as he can. Learn more about Andy by clicking here.

Neighbour Day 2020 Scavenger Hunt!
Neighbour Day is on Saturday, June 20, and while it might look a little different this year, we are excited to celebrate it! Working with the Sunalta Community Association and the City of Calgary, along with feedback from some of our other members, we have developed a scavenger hunt activity card for you to promote to your residents! The City of Calgary is currently finalizing the activity and it will be available on their website by clicking here the week of June 1. We will send out communications as soon as it is available along with sample social media and website content to help you get the message out! We also hope you will consider changing your outdoor sign, if you have one, to engage with residents who are not connected online! We want everyone celebrating Neighbour Day using this exciting scavenger hunt card- all while practicing safe physical distancing! Let’s show everyone the power of Calgary’s community association network!

Visit the link to watch the past virtual town hall meetings. The Green Line Committee will be meeting on June 1. You can participate by speaking at the meeting or by providing a written public submission. You can also watch the committee meeting online here.

3. Municipal Development Plan and Calgary Transportation Plan
The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and the Calgary Transportation Plan (CTP) are documents that will guide land use and transportation in Calgary in the long term. The City is proposing amendments to the two plans and will be collecting feedback online until April 12. Please click the link above to provide feedback.

4. Changes to Outdoor Patio Permitting Process
As the City continues in its reopening process for restaurants and small businesses, City Council has announced a new temporary permitting process for outdoor patios. Businesses can now apply for temporary patios on public properties such as the sidewalk. Businesses that wish to establish a patio on private property will need a development permit; once the development permit has been approved, the patio approval is permanent. Please click the link above to read more.

5. Share your thoughts on Calgary’s Landmark Projects
A research group with the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary is exploring the impact of large-scale infrastructure projects on residents of Calgary. If you are impacted by either Downtown, the Plus 15 or the Ring Road, the team will like to hear from you. Click the link above and share if you use any of these infrastructures and how you will like to see them change in the future.
