With support from a Navacord Action Grant, Peer Mediation and Skills Training (PMAST) purchased eight tablets to use in its communication and conflict management programs for youth.
PMAST teaches conflict management and basic communication skills, using pre- and post-program assessments to measure participants’ growth. While many youth can complete these assessments on their own devices, some do not have access to the technology needed. The new tablets ensure that everyone can fully participate without having to borrow a phone or stay after class.
The tablets have also enhanced the learning experience. Course materials can now be accessed individually, allowing participants to work through activities, questions, and reflections at their own pace. Youth can easily revisit information as needed, creating a more comfortable and engaging environment for learning.
Using the tablets has encouraged more detailed responses than traditional pen-and-paper activities, while also making it easier for participants to complete intake and feedback forms. This has improved the efficiency of the program and helped PMAST better measure the impact of its work.
The addition of the tablets has made a meaningful difference for both participants and program staff, improving access to learning and supporting youth as they build valuable communication and conflict management skills.
