Saving Money & Going Green: An Energizing Spaces Success Story
Struggling with high energy bills? Many community associations face this challenge, but there’s hope! Here’s how Penbrooke Meadows Community Association tackled their problem and saved big just by applying for Energizing Spaces powered by ENMAX.
Prior to their Energizing Spaces application, Penbrooke’s board saw $3,000-$4,000 of their hard-earned casino funds going towards electricity and heating bills at their hall.
Like many Community Associations, Penbrooke depends on volunteers to maintain the facility, manage rentals and programs, and fundraise for ongoing operational expenses, like utilities.
Char Cote, a dedicated volunteer and community resident, was the driving force behind Penbrooke’s successful application for Energizing Spaces powered by ENMAX in 2023. Thanks to Char, Penbrooke Meadows was the first community association to receive a full Install Day grant!
This grant program, offered by ENMAX, helps community associations and nonprofits upgrade their facilities with energy-efficient features, such as appliances and lighting.
However, the benefits of Install Day went beyond new appliances. Not only did they get new, energy-saving appliances, but their entire facility got an upgrade! ENMAX installed LED lights, faucet air filters, pipe insulation, and even smart thermostats to help them save on ALL their utility expenses. These improvements, along with a switch to a more efficient energy plan, resulted in a savings of $1,000 in the first month! Penbrooke Meadows is now able to reinvesting those savings into their community.
But it wasn’t just about the Community Association. Penbrooke Meadows residents also benefited. ENMAX hosted an educational workshop that taught them ways to save on their own energy bills. Plus, each household received a FREE energy-efficient kit to install at home!
