Riverbend is a relatively new community, with development in the area beginning in 1982. Riverbend has three distinct landscapes: floodplain, escarpment and upland plain. The area offers excellent views of both the Rocky Mountains and the wooded flood plains.  The community is also conveniently located near some of Calgary’s major roadways, including Glenmore Trail, Barlow Trail and Deerfoot Trail. Riverbend residents can take advantage of easy access to the city’s pathway system, as well as easy access to the Bow River. There are also numerous green spaces in the community which offer recreational opportunities. Riverbend is also home to both a public and separate school. The Riverbend community association offers something for every age groups. For 3-5, the community Jazzer Tots program is popular. For older children and teens, dance, martial arts, and junior Jazzercise are just a few of the programs offered. For adults, Jazzercies, group fitness, strength training, Tae Bo and yoga have proved popular. Finally, for seniors, the Plus 55 group engages in activities such as aerobics and carpet bowling. A number of other activities and groups make use of the center as well, including Toastmasters, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, first aid, Youth Justice, jellybean dances, parents and tots group, the TOPS group (take off pounds sensibly) and skating classes. The community also recently installed a popular skateboard park, it was only for the City Skate park which travels every year. Riverbend also promotes community interests to the city, with their traffic committee acting as a voice for concerns.
