In May 2026, Windsor Park Community Association turned a dry, underused strip of land into something welcoming and useful. With support from a Navacord Action Grant, volunteers created a shared raspberry patch and small flower garden along the south wall of the community hall.
This project reflects what Action Grants are all about. Simple, community-led ideas that bring people together and make neighbourhood spaces more welcoming. The Windsor Park team used a modest grant to create a space that offers both fresh food and a place to connect.
More than a dozen volunteers came out to improve the soil and plant donated raspberry canes. They added native nodding onions to support pollination and bring colour. A bench with flower boxes and signage invites people to sit, pick berries, and learn more about the community’s beautification efforts through a QR code.
The site now feels like an inviting “urban oasis.” Neighbours have access to fresh raspberries this season, and the grounds around the hall feel more cared for. Just as important, the project brought people together. Volunteers met one another, shared knowledge, and built momentum for future projects.
Navacord Action Grants are designed to lower barriers and support creative, local solutions. Projects like this help community associations test ideas, build volunteer capacity, and show what is possible with a bit of support.
