It’s the little things that make a big difference. With support from a Navacord Action Grant, the Braeside Community Association added a new picnic table to an outdoor space that was missing a place for people to sit, gather and connect.
Located just outside the community association building, the new picnic table gives staff and children in the after-school program a welcoming place to enjoy lunch and outdoor activities. It also provides extra seating for community events, making the space more useful for everyone.
Braeside has a goal of encouraging greater community engagement, but without enough outdoor seating, it was difficult for residents to gather for casual conversations and small get-togethers. Now, the table offers a place for everything from coffee chats and garden committee meetings to board discussions and after-school lunches.
Although the table was only recently installed, volunteers have already noticed more people gathering in the area.
