With support from ClimateReadyYYC, a group of community members worked with the Mount Pleasant Tennis Club and the Crescent Heights Community Association to complete a small but meaningful climate project in Rotary Park.

The new People & Pet Public Drinking Fountain / Hydration Hub is located near the Rotary Off Leash Dog Park and busy walking and wheeling paths. It offers free, easy access to drinking water for both people and pets. This popular park is used by families, dog owners, seniors, tourists, and fitness groups. The fountain meets an important need while also supporting health, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

A Practical Response to Hotter Summers

Calgary is experiencing warmer summers and more frequent heatwaves. Because of this, access to clean drinking water in outdoor spaces is becoming more important. Hot and dry conditions increase the risk of dehydration and heat-related illnesses, especially during physical activity.

The new Hydration Hub provides a reliable water source that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It helps people and pets stay safe, hydrated, and active, even during extreme heat.

Built for Accessibility and Long‑Term Use

The fountain was made from durable stainless steel, which makes it long-lasting, easy to clean, and low maintenance. This reduces the need for frequent repairs or replacements and helps save resources over time.

The fountain connects to the Mount Pleasant Tennis Club’s existing water and drainage systems. This reduced environmental impact and avoided the need for new infrastructure. The fountain is fully accessible and open to everyone, ensuring people of all ages and abilities can use it.

Made Possible Through Collaboration

This project was made possible through strong collaboration. Partners included City of Calgary Parks and Facilities staff, engineers, tradespeople, and dedicated volunteers. In total, 26 people shared their time, skills, and knowledge to complete the project.

Volunteers have winterized the fountain for the season. A grand opening is planned for spring 2026, when warmer weather returns and more people begin using the park.

A Small Project with Big Impact

While this project is small, it has a big impact. The People & Pet Hydration Hub supports hydration, public health, waste reduction, and equal access to essential services. It helps ensure Rotary Park remains a welcoming, safe, and climate-resilient space—now and in the future.
