The SHAWNEE-EVERGREEN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (SECA) serves the vibrant and evolving neighbourhoods of Shawnee Slopes, Evergreen Estates, and Shawnee Park. The area features gently rolling prairie landscapes, with scenic slopes along the Fish Creek Valley and a well-connected network of parks, pathways, and green spaces that enhance outdoor recreation opportunities.
Residents enjoy direct access to downtown via Macleod Trail and the Fish Creek-Lacombe LRT station, conveniently located at the community’s eastern edge. Residents enjoy premier recreational facilities nearby, including Fish Creek Provincial Park, the Trico Centre for Family Wellness, the South Fish Creek Complex, and the Belmont Field House.
Shawnee Slopes was originally developed in 1986 as a golf course community, followed by the establishment of Evergreen Estates in 1990. Initially planned as a low-density residential area, the golf course, making up approximately 50% of Shawnee Slopes was rezoned for housing development in 2010, leading to the creation of Shawnee Park. Today, the area is a dynamic mixed-use community featuring multi-unit residences, senior care and daycare facilities, retail shops, services, and restaurants in the eastern portion of Shawnee Slopes, while single-detached and townhouse units make up the remainder of the development.
Once fully built, Shawnee Slopes is expected to experience a nearly 300% population increase, particularly near the LRT, bringing greater cultural and socioeconomic diversity and fostering a more vibrant community.
SECA is an active and engaged community association, dedicated to fostering connections, enhancing public spaces, and strengthening neighbourhood identity. Though SECA does not operate a community hall, it plays a vital role in bringing residents together through programs, events and innovative projects co-designed with residents. By bringing neighbours together and amplifying local voices, SECA fosters meaningful relationships and advocates for residents, contributing to a thriving, connected, and inclusive community.
