Stampede Parade Pacers Update

As you know, for six years we participated in the Calgary Stampede Parade as proud community volunteer pacers walking alongside each entry in the parade wearing a shoulder sash showcasing our city’s 150 community associations. Recently, our Board of Directors voted to no longer participate in the Stampede Parade, which means we will not be organizing pacers this upcoming July. We had six wonderful years of participation with many of you, spending our first Friday of July soaking up the sun while walking the parade route and waving to thousands of Calgarians, but our Board has decided it’s time to explore other opportunities that can help us highlight community associations in different ways. We will definitely keep you updated on what these opportunities will be. Thank you to all of you who woke up at the crack of dawn to join us over the years, we had a blast, and thank you for your understanding.

Welcome Ben!

Ben Morin is a recent graduate from Queen’s University’s School of Urban and Regional Planning. Ben is originally from the Laurentians, Quebec, and studied at Bishop’s University prior to completing his master’s in planning at Queen’s. Ben concentrated on social planning, and some of the issues he is most passionate about include healthy community planning, placemaking, and active transportation. We are very excited to have him join our team.

“Make it a Hit! Why it Matters to Have an Engaging AGM”
Annual General Meetings are typical in what they aim to accomplish. That being said, how can we plan a meeting that makes the most of its own platform? Join us for a session on how to prepare for a successful AGM, and why it’s important to promote successes, acknowledge challenges, and reignite passion from supporters. We will discuss good planning tips, and highlight strategies on how to be welcoming and engaging, and creative with your presentations. We will also discuss what it means to have an “inquorate board,” what to do when you do not have enough directors to legally function. Register here.

Community Representation Framework (CRF) Update
We had a meeting on April 18 and unfortunately we still have nothing to report. Keep following along as progress will hopefully be made before the June municipal election redzone break.
