PIP is going on an interactive walking tour and exploring how zoning rules, planning policies, and urban design guidelines shape the built environment in Calgary’s residential neighbourhoods. Using Marda Loop as a living case study, we’ll examine a range of built forms—from single-detached homes to townhouses and apartments—and uncover how Land Use Bylaw rules about height, density, setbacks, landscaping, in conjunction with urban design guidelines, contribute to an evolving city.
This session invites you to observe the built environment through a guided walking tour while learning how bylaws, development policies, and urban design tools influence what gets built—and why. Through conversations with the City of Calgary & Federation planners, and on-the-ground exploration, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how built form decisions impact community identity, and how thoughtful development can support neighbourhood evolution.
