Community Description

go to top ^

The NE community of Martindale was established in 1983 on land annexed by the City of Calgary in 1961. There are approximately 4000 homes with a very diverse ethnic population. Martindale has four public schools in their neighbourhood and are home to the Dashmesh Culture Centre.

The Martindale Community Association (MCA) was established in 1988 under the umbrella of the Federation of Calgary Communities.

The MCA is a group of Martindale residents and volunteers who love their community and strive to see it flourish.

MCA are committed to improving quality of life, addressing concerns, building deep relationships, providing opportunities for engagement, and having fun.

Since its inception, the MCA has raised and donated funds well in excess of $1 million towards this end. Projects have included the building and maintaining of an outdoor recreation facility including basketball courts, hockey rink, Gaga Pit, playground and green space. This property is used extensively by the neighbouring K-grade 9 school for activities such as lacrosse, ball hockey, cricket etc.

In January of 2012 MCA saw the opening of their new state-of-the-art, multi-function community centre: The Genesis Centre was envisioned, spearheaded, and seed funded in partnership with Taradale and Saddleridge communities to meet the growing need in their area.

MCA has donated funds for youth programs such as YMCA and Scouts Canada,

Seniors programs such as the Kerby Centre.

School Council projects: Field trips, technology upgrades, playground improvements,

and many more worthwhile community initiatives.
