Midnapore was once a small town to the south of Calgary and was annexed by the city in 1961. It is adjacent to Fish Creek Park and offers easy access to the city’s extensive pathway system. Of historical significance, there are two churches within the community that the province has deemed historical sites. Midnapore is also a lake community, containing a beautifully landscaped recreational lake complete with beaches and tobogganing hills. There is both a separate and a public school within the community. Sundance is one of the most southerly communities in Calgary. It is bordered on the North and East by Fish Creek Park. Sundance was established as a community in 1982. Like Midnapore, Sundance is a lake community. Lake Sundance provides residents with numerous recreational opportunities. Separate and Public schools can are both found within the community. These two communities share a large community centre, which offers a variety of programs. These include out of school and preschool programs, Tae Kwan Do, drama, badminton, break dancing, and school dances. Regular town hall meetings are held in the centre, and special events such as Canada Day are marked by parties at one of the community lakes. Mid-Sun is also active in addressing concerns of the community. It represents community interests on the board of the new South Fish Creek Recreation Center. Mid-Sun has also established a volunteer Traffic and Development Committee to address traffic concerns in the area.
