The area offers excellent views of the lake and the Elbow River Valley. Lakeview was annexed in 1956, and development began in 1962. Lakeview residents can access a number of outdoor recreational opportunities, including Glenmore Park, boat docks, regional bike paths, Weaselhead flats hiking trail, and Heritage Park. There are also a number of schools in the area. The Lakeview community association is active within the community. The community hall, which consists of a main hall as well as a number of smaller meeting rooms, hosts a number of groups, including Sparks, Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders. Quilting, arts and crafts, and martial arts are a few of the other activities that take place at the hall. Bridge is also popular in the community, with the Bridge club meeting a number of afternoons and evenings each week. The community association also maintains a pleasure skating rink each winter, and its summer soccer program is extremely popular. The community preschool is also well attended. An excellent playground facility is located nearby the hall, and contains climbers, swings, slides, rocking riders, and spinners. Lakeview also hosts a number of special events each year, including family fun day, which includes a climbing wall, origami, sidewalk chalk drawing, baked goods, and crafts and live music. The community association is also continually working on new projects. Two currently in the works are a “Moves in Rhythm” program, based on Tai Chi, and a Knit, Pearl, Relax knitting class.
