Rezoning For Housing

“Calgary needs more homes. Citywide rezoning will help.”

You might have seen that The City has published multiple newsletters from Councillors and Planning and Development Services Dispatched, and if you are subscribed to the Rezoning Home Newsletter, there too!

Here is the need to know about the Rezoning For Housing Website!

The Rezoning for Housing is a landing page for one of their current initiatives that stems from the Home is Here, The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy 2024 – 2030, already council-approved. An action directed by the council is to propose a citywide rezoning.

A base residential land use district or zone that will also allow for rowhouses and townhouses along with single-detached and semi-detached homes (R-CG, R-G, and H-GO) on parcels that currently only allow for single- or semi-detached homes (R-C1, R-C2). The City states:

“[These] changes will help increase the supply of housing to meet demand and significantly reduce the costs and timelines for permit approvals. More homes in all shapes and sizes and in all communities will help address the housing crisis.”

The webpage was updated on January 17th and now includes the following:

  • An interactive parcel map to find out what your property’s proposed rezoning is;
  • The latest FAQs and info about the proposed change by subscribing to their email newsletter;
  • A space to provide your input online; and
  • Online & In-person information sessions to attend under the Attend an Info Session.

No zoning will change without Public Hearing & Council approval.

The Public Hearing is dated April 22, 2024. The public will have a chance to speak at the public hearing before a Council decision is made.

You can also submit your thoughts to the Council by submitting their feedback through calgary.ca/publichearing.
