Citizens + Students Project Kickoff Event
Is your community looking for help in exploring physical planning, urban design, and asset mapping? Please join us on September 8th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. to learn more about your CA’s potential involvement in the Citizens+Students project. Since every community will be undergoing a multi-community local area plan, this project is a great way to get you thinking about how your community will change and develop. We will walk you through the project process and can discuss your questions and ideas. You will also hear from CAs who participated in previous projects to learn more about their experiences. You can view the projects from previous years here. The Master of Planning students will be present at the session.
This partnership has existed since 2013 and involves Master of Planning Students at the University of Calgary working with selected community associations on a variety of planning issues related to both short-term problem solving and long-term visioning of community enrichment opportunities. Please register for the event here https://calgarycommunities.com/events/citizensstudents-project-kickoff-event-2/

Development Map Survey
Have you used The City of Calgary’s “Planning & Development map” recently? There have been some recent changes and improvements to the map. Please complete a short survey to let The City know what you think, and you can also suggest improvements to the map. The survey closes at midnight on September 19, 2021.

Apply to be on the Calgary Planning Commission (CPC)
CPC is seeking nominees to fill 3 vacancies. The City has asked for nominations from the Federation. Along with relevant experience and knowledge, the Federation will look at applicants’ experience working with community issues and community associations. Though the nominee will not represent the Federation, we are looking for someone with a community perspective.

Please send an expression of interest, including cover letter and resume of no more than 2 pages, planner1@calgarycommunities.com by September 22nd, 2021. Federation staff will contact selected candidates and will conduct interviews shortly after the deadline. Nominations and resumes for successful candidates will be sent to the City Clerk and be forwarded the Organizational Meeting of Council for Council’s decision (individuals may also apply to the City Clerk independently). If you have any questions about this position, please contact Toun at (403) 244-4111, ext. 207.

Lunch-n’-Learn – What is Zoning?
Have you ever heard of the terms residential dwelling, commercial, or mixed-use district? Do you understand what they mean? Zoning, also referred to as Land Use Designation, are the rules around the uses and intensity of development on the land. Join us during your lunch hour on September 23rd 12:00-1:00 as we learn about the different types of zones and rules associated with the zones.
