Each year along with Mayor Nenshi and other community partners we proudly take part in the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Food Drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank. We invite you, our community association members, to participate in this wonderful event by hosting donation boxes at your facilities and encouraging your members and residents to drop off food items from now until December 22. We also invite all residents to take part by donating non-perishable food items at your local community association or grocery store.
Last year, 15 communities participated in the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Food Drive donating 2,195 pounds of food and $491 in cash for a grand total of over $4,881 in food and funds for the Calgary Food Bank! We challenge you all to step up and participate to help us double all of last year's numbers and support the Calgary Food Bank in providing food for more families in need this holiday season, families who may even live in your community.
What’s even better than giving back to those who need it in your community? Doing so is extremely easy!
– If you are a community association simply email Nicolle with the Calgary Food Bank at firstname.lastname@example.org with the number of donation boxes you would like for your facility along with the dates you’d like them dropped off and picked up. The Calgary Food Bank can start delivering donation boxes to you as early as today and can pick them up anytime up until end of day December 22.
– If you are a resident simply drop off non-perishable food donations at your local community association or grocery store now until December 22.
Items on the Calgary Food Bank’s “Holiday Wish List” this year are:
- Pasta sauce
- Peanut butter
- Fruit juice
- Baby formula
- Canned fruit, vegetables, fish, tomatoes, and meat
The Calgary Food Bank also now accepts perishable food items to add to each food hamper, such as fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy, and meat products. Perishable food items can be dropped off at The Calgary Food Bank Warehouse at 5000 – 11 Street SE, warehouse door #3.
