The Federation submitted a letter as an attachment to the presentation on the Developed Areas Guidebook to Calgary Planning Commission on September 20th, 2018. The presentation was for information, though the Developed Areas Guidebook team is going to pursue the approval of four amendments at the Standing Policy Committee on Planning and Urban Development on October 1st and at Council on November 12th. The proposed amendments are listed as follows:

  1. Employment – Industrial Flex building block
  2. Heritage policy amendments
  3. The amendment to policy 9.2.3 (b) (ii) to ensure that the Guidebook takes precedence over the Local Area Plan (Area Redevelopment Plan)
  4. The addition of two land use districts to the non-statutory section of the Guidebook in Table 4

Through conversations with our community association membership, the Federation has been made aware that there are concerns about amendment number 3, relating to the precedence of the Developed Areas Guidebook. The Federation supports the work moving forward, but submitted a letter to highlight the need for broad, and accessible engagement that clearly lays out the hierarchy of plans in Calgary and how they will be implemented.
