Even though, as player Lorraine Bilodeau explains, it wasn’t just cold, “it was fricken cold” out on Friday, August 24, she and the other 70+ golfers still made their way to The Canal at Delacour Golf Club for this year’s 6th Annual Chip in Fore Communities Golf Tournament. Together, players, volunteers, and staff raised over $10,000 for the Federation of Calgary Communities and their support of community-based organizations and the people who make them great!

Bilodeau says she wouldn’t have missed the event for anything, and that no matter how cold they were, spirits still-remained high.

John Wither, secretary and co-treasurer at Edgemont Community Association, agrees that bearing the bad weather was worth it. “Those at The Federation are fantastic! They’re really supportive of community associations and other member organizations.”

Throughout the tournament, players took part in a variety of fun activities. Teams bonded over best ball, struck silly poses at the Fantastic Foursome photo contest, and even networked over complimentary margaritas thanks to Park N Play Design on hole #15.

Jay Meakin, president & planning director of the Highwood Community Association, most enjoyed building meaningful connections and getting to meet other community minded people and businesses.

“I’m interested in the development of the community, [and] working with builders that want to redevelop in the area. [Highwood] is an older community, so it’s just starting. It’s important to engage with builders.”

The event is known for its comradery and focus on community building, rather than score. This year, over $10,000 in prizes and giveaways were awarded in over 40 prize categories, ranging from best dressed to a human version of heads and tails.
