Here are a few highlights from our urban planning world this month.

Introducing Heritage Inspires YYC
Calgary’s evolution to a more compact and sustainable city can be inspired by heritage! Imagine repurposing more of our heritage buildings as interesting spaces for local businesses, start-ups, and diverse housing. Heritage belongs to everyone!

This volunteer-led communications campaign asks Calgarians to recognize and protect built heritage, historic streetscapes, and public spaces that define a unique sense of place.

Outdoor Patios back for the summer
As temperatures start to warm up, the City has announced that they are extending the outdoor patio program first introduced last year for this season. This means that they will allow patios on public land, prioritize applications and waive permitting fees. Please click the link above to learn more about the program.

Plus 15 Wayfinding Improvements
The City is looking to make it easier for people to navigate the Plus 15 walkway network in downtown Calgary. Wayfinding is the process of navigating from point A to point B. Tools like signs and maps can help people to find their way by giving them the right information, in the right format, at the right moments in their journey. Please click the link above to learn more and provide your input.

Foothills + McMahon Concept Plan
The City of Calgary in partnership with the University of Calgary is in the early stages of creating a Concept Plan for the City-owned Foothills Athletic Park and university-owned McMahon Stadium lands. The Concept Plan will provide a roadmap for the future development of the site that reflects the needs of its users and the community. Head to the above link to share how you use the site and the surrounding community.
