Federation Summer Update
This is our last Get Engaged issue for the summer! Get Engaged will return the first week of September. While our newsletter is taking a break for the summer, we are still here for you! We will continue to send updates as we navigate this pandemic and our staff are still available to provide support and resources throughout the summer. Open discussion with community associations without buildings
Join us and the Calgary Evergreen Community Association on June 25 at noon for a discussion with your peers on important topics for community associations without buildings. All community associations are welcome to attend and share your insights on these topics! Bring your questions and together we will create the agenda. Topics for discussion can include creative ways to build value for your community association, building your community association’s identity, developing or sharing amenities, working with residents associations and other community partners, and fund development. Financial Literacy One-on-One Support!
This summer, we welcomed Andy to our team. Andy is a business administration and accounting student who is providing one-on-one financial accountability support in areas like cash flows and budgeting to our members, as well as answering any questions you, your community association volunteers, and treasurers may have in regards to any resources available during COVID-19. Public art projects funding
The City of Calgary is inviting Calgarians to develop ideas for community-run public art projects that will support the local economy and strengthen our community through artistic exploration. Calgarians and community groups are encouraged to team up with artists at all levels to explore any form of public art in any part of the city. Learn more by clicking here. Applications are reviewed every two weeks by an advisory committee from July 19 to September 30. Communities should apply early as funding is limited and evaluations take place every two weeks until all funding is allocated.
CDLI Success in Community Action Training
CDLI is running an eight part learning opportunity starting July 6 for people who are passionate about their communities and are interested in creating positive community change in Calgary! Topics explored include community change, visioning, community conversations, asset mapping, ally building, and planning. Learn more and register by clicking here.
Alberta Culture Days
The Government of Alberta is providing funding to assist community organizations in hosting Alberta Culture Days events from September 1 to 30. Grant applications are now open and will close on July 16, 2020. With current restrictions on all events and public gatherings, community organizers are encouraged to consider hosting Alberta Culture Days online. 1. Municipal Development Plan and Calgary Transportation Plan
The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Calgary Transportation Plan (CTP) are documents that will guide land use and transportation in Calgary in the long term. The City is proposing amendments to the two plans and will be collecting feedback online until June 26. Please click the link above to read the proposed amendments and to provide feedback.
2. Green Line Stage 1 Alignment
On Tuesday June 16, City Council voted to approve the updated Green Line Stage 1 Alignment. To view some statistics about the Green Line, and to view the updated recommendations that were approved, head to the above link. You can view the minutes and video from the council meeting here.
3. Share your thoughts on Calgary’s Landmark Projects
A research group with the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary is exploring the impact of large-scale infrastructure projects on residents of Calgary. If you are impacted by either Downtown, the Plus 15 or the Ring Road, the team will like to hear from you. Click the link above and share if you use any of these infrastructures and how you will like to see them change in the future.
4. Explore Your Street Survey
The City would like your input to help them understand how you use your neighbourhood streets. Please share your experiences, observations, drawings, and pictures of how you use the streets in your community. You can do the survey for as many streets as you want.
5. The Community Guide to the Planning Process
We are in the process of updating the Community Guide to Planning Process and need your help! If you have used the guide before, we want to hear your thoughts on what can be improved. Please fill out this survey to share your thoughts!
6. Community Amenity Map
We are also creating a Community Amenity map. This map will list some amenities that can be found in communities across the city, such as schools, rinks, and dog parks. We need your help to review that the information we have for this map is correct! Please fill out this survey to let us know what we got right and what we missed!
7. Planning & Development Community Association Forum
Would you like to know more about how the City of Calgary is changing the rules for Planning & Development? How the creation of area plans are changing? How the bylaw for “low density” residential (R-1) is changing? How the city’s strategy for planning (outlined in the Municipal Development Plan) is changing?
