Save the date for Faces!
Put Friday, March 6 in your calendar as an evening you don’t want to miss! We’ll be kicking off March Community Association Awareness Month with an exciting event featuring the big reveal of our 2020 Faces of Community, tasty snacks and drinks, and a celebration of YOU – community volunteers. Keep an eye out for more information on how to register.

Peer-to-peer emails
Did you know that we send out weekly peer-to-peer emails? If you are looking for support from your peers on anything from policy templates you can customize, to getting the word out on employment and volunteer opportunities, you just need to send Alana-Dawn an email with your request to be included in our peer-to-peer emails! Click here to send in your request. Please note that all requests are at the discretion of our staff. If you are not already signed-up to receive the peer-to-peer email and would like to, please contact Lori. Peer-to-peer emails are a great way to receive direct support from your network!




Calling for Calgary Awards nominations
For 26 years, The Calgary Awards have celebrated exceptional achievements and contributions made by Calgarians. This is your opportunity to nominate deserving individuals, businesses and organizations that made a difference in 2019. Look to your neighbours, colleagues, community leaders, local groups and companies who could qualify as award recipients. Deadline is Monday, February 24. Community cleanups schedule
The City of Calgary is accepting applications for their community cleanups schedule until January 31. Every year the City teams up with community associations to help residents get rid of unwanted household items and property waste. Click here to learn more or to apply by the deadline.

TD Park People Grants Open
TD Park People Grants will provide $2000 to groups from Metro Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Greater Toronto Area, National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau), Montreal, Quebec City or Halifax Regional Municipality, to build community and support environmental stewardship in your park or green space. Make your green space great with events like park clean-ups, tree-planting and movie nights. Applications close on March 2nd. 1. Guidebook 101 Repeat Information Session
Are you interested in learning more about the Guidebook for Great Communities? We are having a repeat information session tonight, January 22. While the session at our office is full, you can still join in from the comfort of your home via ZOOM. If you be joining us via ZOOM, please send an email to planner1@calgarycommunities.com. 2. Partners in Planning
Join us for our next Partners in Planning course “Planning Implementation” on February 8 as we learn about the Land Use Bylaw and other factors that can affect design and the built form. Click the link above to register.

3. City of Calgary Library Installation
Visit the People + Places make Great Communities interactive display at the Central Library to learn more about the Guidebook for Great Communities. The installation is on the 1st floor in the create space, it will be there until the end of February. Click the link above for more information.

4. Citizens+Students Website is now live
Since 2013, the Federation has partnered with the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape’s (SAPL) Master of Planning students to help selected communities identify issues regarding density, physical planning, urban design, land use to create final products that reflect the needs of the communities. Please visit the website through the link above to browse the project library, and learn about the process and how to get involved in the project.

5. The Olmsted Legacy: Protections for Heritage Areas in Calgary
Join the Scarboro Community Association and the University of Calgary School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape (SAPL) for a short lecture and film screening with Laurence Cotton, public historian and content producer of the PBS film, “Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America.” After the presentation , there will be a panel discussion on “heritage areas” in Calgary and other topics pertaining to protecting heritage assets. This free event will take place on Wednesday, January 29. Register by clicking the link above.
