We all want to build community and bring our people together, so it is important that we make sure we are communicating in a way that our audience can easily understand. To help your community outreach efforts we have made the Plain Language Starter Guide! Funding for Community-based Seniors Programs
The New Horizons Programs (NHSP) call for proposals is now open. NHSP is a federal grants and contributions program and this funding is looking to support projects that improve the wellbeing and quality of life of seniors and foster the social inclusion and engagement of older Canadians. The NHSP’s community-based stream supports activities that engage seniors and address one or more of the program’s five objectives: volunteering, mentoring, expanding awareness of elder abuse, social participation and capital assistance. Deadline to submit applications is June 21st, 2019. Click here for more details.
Multi-Unit Toilet Replacement Program
The City of Calgary is offering a rebate for multi-unit building owners and condominium associations to replace their old water-guzzling toilets with high-efficiency WaterSenseTMlabelled toilets. The WaterSenseTM label identifies high-efficiency products that meet EPA criteria for both water efficiency and performance similar to the EnergyStarTM label for appliances. Here are a few highlights from our urban planning world this month. Be sure to check our blog for a complete listing of recent events and updates!

  1. Municipal Development Plan Review
We have been working with other stakeholders to provide input on the direction for the Municipal Development Plan and Calgary Transportation Plan review. The City would like your input on what is important to the future of our city. Your input will be used to change or update policies that will shape the lives of Calgarians for the next 20 years. To learn more about the project and provide your input, please click the link above.
  2. Update on 12 Infill Items
Last year, Council directed City administration to review 12 recurring and emerging issues related to infill development. On May 1st at the SPC on Planning and Urban Development, administration proposed 3 more amendments to the items on the list “Height, Tree Retention and Green Landscaping.” Administration will be presenting the latest amendments at City Council on June 17th. Please click the link above to read our blog and stay up to date on this project.
  3.  Banff Trail Area Improvements Project
The City of Calgary has combined the 16 Ave N.W improvement project to include improvement to adjacent areas such as Crowchild Trail, 24th Avenue, and Banff Trail. The City would like to address these projects holistically and accommodate future growth in the area and support the University Major Activity Centre as outlined by the Municipal Development Plan. There will be an Open House on Tuesday June 11th from 7-9 p.m. Please click the link above to find out more information about the project.
  4. Calgary Transit Mobile Ticketing Pilot
