ENMAX Energizing Spaces is back!
The ENMAX Energizing Spaces program is back with an exciting new Energy Efficiency Install Day! Not only will this program continue to cover electrical appliance replacements and outdoor rink and safety lighting, but it will also include a few energy efficiency install events. ActivateYYC 3.0 is LIVE!
ActivateYYC is back! We want to see what ideas you have for traffic calming in your neighbourhood using “bump outs.” Check out the Polka Dot intersection in Bridgeland for an idea of how they can be activated! March CA Awareness Month
As proclaimed by Mayor Nenshi, March is Community Association Awareness Month! Get your board together and join us on March 6 for our March Community Association Awareness Month kick-off event as we reveal our 2020 Faces of Community! This inspiring evening makes for a great board night out, with plenty of time for networking with other community volunteers! Click here to register before its too late! Table Talk Tuesday Launching Soon!
Launching on March 3 is our new Table Talk Tuesdays lunch-n’-learn sessions! Join our Education Coordinator, Paul, as he delivers online learning sessions on a variety of exciting topics. Designed to make your job easier, each session will feature a 15 minute presentation with another 15 minutes for questions. Our first topic is on Fiduciary Duties in Plain Language on March 3. Record Breaking Mayor’s Food Drive
A record breaking campaign total of $1,269,263 in food and funds was raised through the Mayor’s Christmas Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank this year! Our community network collected 3,404 pounds of food and raised $7,603 in funds, at 22 participating locations. Thanks to organizations and individuals efforts across Calgary, this past December, the Calgary Food Bank was able to distribute over 8,000 emergency food hampers, feeding over 20,000 Calgarians!

Three ways to get involved in community this spring
Communities are only as strong as the people who build them. The Calgary Foundation wants your help. APPLY for Pitch Night – Pitch Night: Neighbour Grants LIVE encourages Calgarians to pitch their ideas to improve, enhance or revitalize their community or neighbourhood. LEAD a Jane’s Walk – Jane Jacobs was passionate about community and city life. If you are too, why not design and lead a walk through your favourite part of Calgary? HOST an On the Table Conversation – Join people from across Calgary as we come together, make new connections, and build more meaningful relationships.

Here are a few highlights from our urban planning world this month. Be sure to check our blog for a complete listing of recent events and updates! ​​​​

1. Community Planning Exchange-Next Generation Planning in Calgary
Have you wondered how the Updated Municipal Development Plan, Guidebook, Multi-Community Local Area Plans (also known as District Plans) and Established Areas Growth and Change are connected and will guide how planning and development will evolve in our city? Then this workshop is for you. Come learn about how these different projects will change how we plan our city. If you are unable to join us, you can join the workshop online via ZOOM. 2. Partners in Planning

Join us on March 14 as we learn how citizens can actively participate in the planning process. This course will include topics like the role of formal decision-making bodies (i.e. Council and Calgary Planning Commission), how and when to provide feedback on an application, and making the most of engagement opportunities. 3. Greenline Open House Dates

On January 29, members from the Green Line presented an updated Stage 1 alignment Green Line LRT route to City Council. There are several open house sessions and pop-ups scheduled over the next few weeks, please click the link above to find a time and location. 4. Short-term Rentals

Do you own a short-term rental? On February 1, 2020, Council approved changes to the Business Licence Bylaw, now you require a business licence to run a short-term rental. This will help to protect the ability of homeowners to earn additional income off their properties. 5. Calgary’s New Event Centre
Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) would like to hear your ideas and aspirations for Calgary’s new event centre. Please click the link above to read more about the project and find out about engagement opportunities.

6. City of Calgary Library Installation

Visit the People + Places make Great Communities interactive display at the Central library to learn more about the Guidebook for Great Communities. The installation is on the 1st floor in the create space, it will be there until the end of this month. Click the link above for details.
