How Did We Do?
It is that time of year again! We are asking you how we did with our Member Satisfaction Survey. We know it’s not fun to do these kinds of surveys, but they are an important way to get feedback from you, our members, on the specific programs and services we offer you.
Please take some time and give the questions your close and honest attention. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete.
We value your feedback and thank you for your time and responses. When you complete the survey, you will get entered to win an exciting surprise gift card! Don’t wait; you have until Sunday, April 30, to fill out the survey!
Meet the 2021 Faces of Community

Attention: Sector Update
Bill 53: the Service Alberta Statutes (Virtual Meetings) Amendment Act 2021 has received Royal Assent on March 26, 2021 and is effective retroactively from August 15, 2020. The updated rules now allow organizations the option of providing meeting notices, conducting meetings, and holding votes using digital technology. If organizations want to meet and vote in-person, or if their bylaw allows for online meeting and voting, no changes are required. A bylaw change is required ONLY if your bylaws expressly prohibit such actions as meeting and voting electronically. Please reach out to us directly at email@example.com with any specific questions or for clarifications.

The Alberta Cultural Days Grant is now open for applications! The grant aims to help community organizations showcase local talent while boosting their cultural programs. The deadline to apply for the grant is May 7, 2021. Apply today!

Here are a few highlights from our urban planning world this month.
1. The Guidebook for Great Communities and North Hill Communities Local Area Plan
The latest draft of the proposed Guidebook for Great Communities and North Hill Communities Local Area Plan was presented at the public hearing of Council from March 22 – 24, 2021. Over 130 people spoke to the Guidebook, and over 20 people spoke to the North Hill plan.
Council directed the Guidebook team to prepare a “What We Heard Report” which will summarize all the comments, suggestions, and amendments received through the public hearing and written submissions. The Guidebook team will report back to the Standing Policy Committee on Planning and Urban Development on May 5, 2021.
The North Hill Communities Local Area Plan was tabled. It will return to the Combined Meeting of Council on Monday, April 12, 2021, for further debate and discussion. This Council session is not a public hearing, so the public is unable to speak, but you can still tune in to follow the debate.
You can read the official minutes or listen to the public hearing (Items 8.2 and 8.2.2) here.
2. Outdoor Patios back for the summer
As temperatures start to warm up, the City has announced that they will extend the outdoor patio program introduced last year. This means that they will allow patios on public land, prioritize applications and waive permitting fees. Click the link above to learn more about the program.
3. Neighbourhood Speed Limit Review
On February 1, Council approved the Speed Limit Bylaw. This bylaw will change the default unposted speed limit within city limits to 40 km/h effective May 31, 2021. This change may affect the speed limit on both residential and collector roads in neighbourhoods. Click here to see the proposed changes to road speed limits in your ward and read more about the speed limit review.
4. Modernizing the Joint Use and Planning Agreement (Agreement between the City of Calgary and School Boards)
A joint use site is land set aside for a school building, school playing fields; community playing fields with facilities, and grounds that are accessible to both school and non-school users. The City is reviewing its current agreement. This review will explore allowing a mix of uses on joint use sites and how different groups use and want to use these sites. Visit the link above to provide your feedback on the role of school sites and the design of school sites in your community!
