Every Child Matters Official Acknowledgement
The Federation of Calgary Communities acknowledges that the remains of 215 children have been discovered on the grounds of Kamloops Indian Residential School. We join Canadians in expressing our shock and sincere condolences to the Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc (taˈkamlups te she-KWE-pem] First Nations. This news is very upsetting, and the impact of this news is far reaching. It is difficult to imagine the full pain and anguish of the affected families as well as residential school survivors. Hearing, acknowledging, and learning from these truths are important in committing to future truth and reconciliation. The Federation is committed to continuing to learn and to share with our network opportunities that support Truth and Reconciliation Action #57.

Here are a few highlights from our urban planning world this month.

North Hill Communities Local Area Plan
The revised draft of the North Hill Communities Local Area Plan is now available. The plan will be presented in front of City Council on June 21st. Click the link above to read the plan and other updates on the project.

Development Map
The Development Map is a convenient way to inform citizens and community associations of applications in their areas. As of June 1st, citizens can access application plans and renderings on the Development Map. By providing plans/rendering online, communities can become more informed about a proposed development, allowing them to provide their input earlier in the process. To access the map, click the above link. Look out for more improvements to the map.

Explore Your Street Survey
The City wants your input to help them understand how you use your neighbourhood streets! Please share your experiences, observations, drawings, and pictures of how you use the streets in your community. You can do the survey for as many streets as you want.

Calgary: The Community Perspective Project
Becky Poschmann is a thesis student in the MEDes program with the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary. She is also a fellow community association volunteer.

Becky is conducting research on the experience community associations have had with community engagement planning projects. This research intends to understand how your CA received information about a planning project and the steps taken to undertake engagement. Information can be shared and received in many ways. It is important to find a balance to ensure that community members are given equal opportunities to participate in public engagement impacting their communities.

The research will begin with an interview selection form. This form will be used to determine which communities to involve in the Stage 2 interviews. If your community is not selected for Stage 2, we will look to have you involved during the Stage 3 workshops. Please visit the above link to collaborate!

The research for this project has been approved by the CFREB (REB20-1552).
