Elboya Heights-Britannia Bike Parade and Neighbour Day Celebration

The Elboya Heights-Britannia Bike Parade and Neighbour Day Celebration was a welcomed and colourful sight during the middle of a rainy day. Saturday, June 16 was proof that in rain or shine Calgarians are willing to celebrate their neighbours and remember how we all came together during the devastating flood of 2013. To celebrate Neighbour Day, Elboya Heights-Britannia held a BBQ, scavenger hunt, and a bike parade. The 50 to 75 residents who attended were encouraged to dress up and decorate their bikes for the parade and scavenger hunt. Costumes varied from kings and queens to Mario and Spiderman.

The Neighbour Day celebration required quite a few permits: A Special Events Permit, which requires approval from various city department; a Green Space Permit, which was waived because this event was hosted on Neighbour Day; and permits for food and beverages. The organizers were able to use the $750 ActivateYYC grant for materials and supplies for the event, and they were able to secure donations from local businesses.
