For the past two years the City of Calgary and the M.D. of Foothills have been working to update the existing 1998 Intermunicipal Development Plan. The IDP is a statutory document contains objectives and policies that direct collaborative planning between the City of Calgary and the M.D of Foothills. The policies help to manage growth for both municipalities.

The Draft IDP is now up for review and comment. Public participation is important to this process and it helps inform how Calgary will grow its boundary to the south. Further information on the project can be found on the project webpage.

The proposed timeline is as follows: the proposed IDP will go forward to the Calgary Planning Commission (CPC), and then public hearing and consideration by both municipal Councils in spring of 2017. There will also be an opportunity for further input at public hearings.
