The final recommendations for the Crowchild Trail plan are being presented to a committee of Council (The Standing Policy Committee on Transportation and Transit) tomorrow, April 19th.
Community members are encouraged to attend the presentation, and are welcome to share their thoughts with the committee. The meeting will then be followed by a regular council meeting. More information about the meeting and final report for Crowchild Trail can be found here.
Based on community input, the draft plans were revised in the following ways:
Walking & Biking
- Added connections to the pathway system from Toronto Cres. and 13 Ave. N.W.
- Added overpasses and underpasses at the Memorial Drive Crossing.
- Added enhanced overpass at Sonora Ave
- Moved the pedestrian overpass south of 17 Ave. S.W. to avoid the dog park east of Crowchild Tr.
- Moved the location of the pathway between 14 Ave. S.W. and Bow Tr. to avoid Shaganappi Park.
- Improved plans for shared space at 24 St. N.W.
Green Spaces
- Added additionalgreen buffer space at University Dr., on east side of Crowchild Tr.
- Added additional green buffer space north of 5 Ave. N.W., on east side of Crowchild Tr.
Noise
- Extended the noise wall on the north side of 5 Ave. N.W., on east side of Crowchild Tr.
Access
- Extended access road on east side of Crowchild Tr. at Motel Village for better access to existing properties
Additional issues that were identified as not very well-addressed in the draft report were:
- More noise protection for communities south of the river.
- Clarity for next steps and construction timing.
- The need to make changes and upgrade sooner.
