For builders and owners undertaking land use redesignations, smaller residential construction projects or even secondary suites, community engagement can seem daunting. Where do you start? When is the appropriate time? What is the best way in which to give neighbors an opportunity to share their perspectives? Citizens and communities are often left wondering how to best participate in the development process.

Experience has shown that the earlier in the process engagement options are considered, the more likely it will be to contribute to a successful development, benefitting all parties. In collaboration with stakeholders from Federation of Calgary Communities along with industry association BILD Calgary Region, the City of Calgary has created a new resource to help guide these discussions. You can find this document on the City of Calgary website in various locations by clicking on the links provided.

Strengthening awareness and understanding of the planning approvals process for customers, citizens and communities is critical as we will continue to experience development and change within our neighbourhoods. Utilizing this resource is just one of many ways we can work better together!
