The Federation is now accepting proposals to participate in our first yearlong Community Visioning pilot program.

For the 2016-2017 year, the Federation is looking for one community to participate in their yearlong visioning pilot program. This pilot is a unique program and unlike anything that has been offered at the Federation before, it combines programs from multiple departments and even has an implementation and storytelling piece to bring it all together. From September until July, your community will work with Federation staff to build an inclusive understanding of your community, develop a vision, and begin to implement it.   Below are the details:

Phase 1- Building Engagement

Engage U (October-December)

Engage U is a program that seeks to build welcoming communities through a collaborative process that focuses on relationship building, education, and engagement. The goal of Engage U is to spark new involvement from previously unengaged residents to create more inclusive and vibrant neighbourhoods. Through three sessions, the Engage U process will understand your social demographics, identify your local stakeholders, and help create a community specific action plan. Engage U will prepare your board and your community for Community Visioning.

Phase 2- Thinking about the Future

Community Visioning (January-May)

Building off the work accomplished in Engage U, the community will collaborate with the Urban Studies program at the University of Calgary and be introduced to Community Visioning. Community Visioning challenges residents to imagine what their community could be in 50 years. It will also encourage proactive thinking including strategies and actions that will help the community achieve their collective vision. Activities include a board-led site visit, engagement exercise and a visioning document and presentation.

Phase 3: Creating Momentum

Implementation (May-July)

With important community values and partners identified in Engage U and a community visioning document full of ideas, the community along with the Federation planner will choose one of the strategies/actions identified in the document/visioning process and put it into action. This may be the catalyst your community is looking for!

Phase 4: Storytelling

Report Back to Community (July)

This will be our chance to celebrate the collaborative efforts experienced throughout the year. Partners throughout the program will report back on the challenges and successes that were encountered as well as the lessons learned.
