BENEFITS OF BELONGING TO THE FEDERATION OF CALGARY COMMUNITIES

FINANCIAL & AUDIT SERVICES

The Federation has professionals who can perform the following: monthly record keeping, financial statement preparation, GST Preparation and reporting, Bingo and Casino Reporting, internal controls, automation of books, and annual audit. Our rates are subsidized for CA’s so bookkeeping can be as low as $30.00 per hour and audit $68.00 per hour - Service / Associate Rates are $39 and $81 respectively.

COMMUNITY PLANNING

The Federation provides planning assistance to communities through an Urban Planning Committee, as well as a staff Community Planner.

ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

Whether by phone, in-person or through our on-line members only portal, our staff are able to offer support on a wide variety of topics like Human Resources, Facility Care, and Governance. If we don’t have an answer we will use our partners and the Federation’s network of members to help you find timely solutions.

WORKSHOPS AND MANUALS

The Federation hosts many workshops per year, including Treasurer’s, Granting, Partners in Planning, and the like. Workshop fees range from free to $40.00 for members. Watch the monthly newsletter for upcoming dates.

ENGAGE! NEWSLETTER

At the beginning of each month, September to June, The Federation distributes ENGAGE! to all Members with email addresses. This newsletter is packed with information useful to running a CA or small non-profit. Members can place 2 free ads per year, thereafter a fee of $35.00 will apply. NETWORKING WITH OTHER COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS

The Federation hosts a variety of networking meetings to discuss common issues and concerns and to celebrate success. Watch for Area Council, Central Council, and Administrators Meetings as they are a great way to stay connected.

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION

The Federation offers a Community Hero Award and The Community Builder Award (annual). The Federation will present the Community Hero award at a public meeting in your community. It is a great way to thank your volunteers. In addition, The Federation recognizes various milestones such as significant anniversaries.

LIST OR LABELS FOR THE CALGARY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS

The Federation publishes a Community Association List each month which contains the official contact information for each association. Also listed are the Newsletter Editor, Hall Rental information and current President for each. This is free to members. For a complete price list call The Federation.

ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT

The Federation offers a variety of support services including: conflict resolution, position papers, policies development, support with societies act and charity status—to name a few. In 2008 we will add a staff person dedicated to supporting our Members. If you have a question, call to find out if we can help or know someone who can!

CHAMBER OF VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATION (CCVO) AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP

If your current operating budget is below $100,000, your CA is entitled to a CCVO affiliate membership. To find out more about the benefits, you can contact The Federation or Janet Lavoie at 261-6655.

INSURANCE COVERAGE

Board of Directors Liability, Community Liability and Asset Insurance is available through our official supplier Toole Peet Insurance. Toole Peet offers one of the most comprehensive packages. In addition, community members can qualify for discounted home and auto rates if they have a valid Community Membership Card. EMPLOYEE BENEFIT PACKAGE

For those communities who have employees, The Federation can connect you to a group insurance provider for extended health benefits. Call Lois at 244-4111 for more information.

COMMUNITY WEB SITE

The Federation offers website space to our members communities (at no cost) through a partnership with calgaryarea.com. Our combined websites attract 1.8 million page views per year and 10.9 million hits (2003) providing an excellent avenue for communication between community associations and the general public.
